Coca-Cola Zero, or Coke Zero, is a product of The Coca-Cola company It is a low-calorie variation of Coca-Cola specifically marketed to men, who were shown to associate diet drinks with women. It is marketed as having a taste that is indistinguishable from standard Coca-Cola, as opposed to Diet Coke which has a different flavor profile. Coke Zero was Coca-Cola's largest product launch in 22 years. The global campaign was done by creative agency Crispin Poter + Bogusky It is primarily marketed towards young adult males and has been nicknamed "Bloke Coke" in the UK. In the U.S., advertising has been tailored to its targeted market by describing the drink as "calorie-free" rather than "diet", since young adult males are said to associate diet drinks with women.
Diet Coke
Diet Coke, (called Coca-Cola Light in some countries), is a sugar free soft drink produced and distributed by The Coca-Cola company Unveiled on July 8, 1982 and introduced in the United States on August 9, it is the first new brand since 1886 to use the Coca-Cola trademark. In the Batman begins film there are many codes and conventions of the superhero genre.
Firstly, in the Batman film they tell the back story of Batman became a superhero and why. This is a typical occurrence in superhero films as the audience want to know why the superhero has decided to fight crime and if they are an ordinary person or perhaps and alien. In Batman they tell us that his parents were killed and he wants to take revenge.
Also, Batman has accomplices and helpers in the film like Alfred and Lucius Fox that help him and support him throughout the film. In Propp's character types, there is a donor and a helper which would fit these two characters. Many other films also have these characters and they are frequently used in superhero films.
Another way the Batman film tells us it is a superhero film is that it is set in a big city that resembles New York. In DC there cities are usually fantasy, are this is the same in Batman as the city is Gotham, which doesn't exist but portrays New York. This shows the audience that this is a superhero film as it is a general setting for superhero films because there are a lot of good effects that you can get from this setting.
Thirdly, the villains in Batman are of similar ability and could possibly defeat Batman. In superhero films the villains have to be able to have a chance of beating the hero otherwise the film would be boring. In the film the scarecrow gases Batman and weakends him and without Lucius Fox's antidote he would of been deafted. This makes the film much more exciting. Also in the film we know that Henri Ducard is the same ability as Batman because he trained Batman and taught him how to fight.
In a lot of the superhero films there is a love interest, this is evident in the Batman film as Bruce Wayne is in love with his childhood friend Rachel Dawes. It is common in superhero films because it often intrudes with their superhero life as it does with Batman and the villain can use this to get to the hero by atacking or threatening the love interest.
A more obvious way that the audience can tell that this is a superhero film is because Batman wears a costume. This is very common in superhero films because a lot of superheroes want to hide a secret identity and don't want the villain and public to know who they are. Also the costume can represent the hero's character. For example the Batman films are quite dark and this relate to the costume he wears.
The 2002 Spider-Man film has many different components so the viewer knows it is a superhero film even though it may seem obvious. The first factor is that the film is based in New York, this is common with most Marvel films and even though DC's settings are usually fantasy, they are often based around New York, this is because a crowded city is where lots of people can be saved or in danger and as a well known, key place in the world it would be a lot more serious to attack rather than a forest or small village. Also there are lots of buildings to get destroyed which would mean better and more exciting effects. Secondly, there is a back story to how Peter Parker gets his powers to become Spider-Man, this is also an occurring thing in many superhero stories, to see how his superhero life effects his ordinary life. The most obvious thing that is in the Spider-Man film that tells us it is a superhero film, is the fact he has super powers, all though not all superheroes have super powers ( some may just have good abilities eg.fighting ) many do. Spider-Man's powers are being strong, climbing and shooting webs etc, this tell us Spider-Man is extra ordinary and clearly a superhero. In addition, Spider-Man wears a costume, this is always occiated with superheroes, and often they wear them to hide their real identity, which the case with Spider-Man. Another point is that through out the film Spider-Man is defeating evil, this means he is a superhero because superheroes always fight evil or crime that is of equal ability and this is proven in the film as Spider-Man's enemy is the Green Goblin, who is evil and has abilities as well.
Martin Goodman founded the company later known as Marvel Comics under the name Timely Publications in 1939. The first publication Marvel comics #1 was a great success, with it and a second printing the following month, it sold nearly 900,000 copies. The he companies first true editer Joe Simon teamed up with Jack Kirby to create the first patriotically themed superheroes Captin America. This proved to be a hit, with sales of nearly 1 million copies. Goodman hired his wife's cousin Stanly Lieber as a general office assistant in 1939 when Simon left the company Goodman made Lieber-now writing pseudonymously as Stan Lee-interim editer. Lee is a key figure in the company writing many famous comics such as, Daredevil, Fantastic Four, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, Spider-Man, Thor and X-Men. Marvel over the years has created over 200 superheroes and has 42 films based on Marvel Comics.
DC
DC was founded in 1934/35. The founder was Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson. His National Allied Publications debuted with The Big Comic magazine #1 in February 1935. The companies second title New Comics #1 evolved into the title Adventure Comics, which continued through issue #503 in 1983 becoming one of the longest running comic book series. The third title Detective Comics was a sensation with the introduction of Batman in issue #27, but by then Wheeler Nicholson was dead. In 1938 Detective Comics launched a fourth title Action Comics, the premier of which introduced Superman. There have been 115 DC superheroes and from 1951-2013 29 DC based films.
Differences between DC and Marvel
The main difference between DC and marvel comics is that Marvel characters are likely to come from relatively ordinary backgrounds than DC characters. Also DC is more fantasy based that Marvel as places such as Gotham are not real whereas in Marvel's comics lots of things are based in New York. Another difference is that Marvel on average makes more money for films than DC. Marvel has generated 47% more in the domestic box office than DC. Lastly Marvel comics have more mainstream superheroes who have been given their own film, however DC often depend on Superman and Batman.
Diegetic sound- Sound whose source is visible on the screen or whose source is implied to be present by the action of the film:
voices of characters
sounds made by objects in the story
music represented as coming from instruments in the story space ( = source music)
Diegetic sound is any sound presented as originated from source within the film's world
Diegetic sound can be either on screen or off screen depending on whatever its source is within the frame or outside the frame.
Non-diegetic sound- Sound whose source is neither visible on the screen nor has been implied to be present in the action:
narrator's commentary
sound effects which is added for the dramatic effect
mood music
Non-diegetic sound is represented as coming from the a source outside story space.
The distinction between diegetic or non-diegetic sound depends on our understanding of the conventions of film viewing and listening. We know of that certain sounds are represented as coming from the story world, while others are represented as coming from outside the space of the story events. A play with diegetic and non-diegetic conventions can be used to create ambiguity (horror), or to surprise the audience (comedy).
Star Wars: The Force Awakens Trailer-
Examples of non-diegetic sound:
There is a clear definition in the instrumental score that plays from the beginning that shows the audience who the main Protagonists and Antagonists of the film are. In the first quarter of the trailer are whilst introducing the heroes this non-diegetic sound is softer and non-threatening, however, when the villain is introduced the music becomes louder, more instruments are heard and the score starts to be played in a minor key. Later on in the trailer the score changes to become two recognisable pieces of music from the original trilogy. These two scores represent two main characters that to a fan of the Star Wars saga would be instantly recognisable. The non-diegetic sound in this trailer is used to initially introduce the audience to three new characters and establish whether they are good or bad characters. Later on the non-diegetic sound is used to link these new themes to already existing characters within the story so far. This allows the film-makers to establish new characters and reinforce old ones using non-diegetic sound alone.
Diegetic sound:
49 seconds into the trailer an ominous voice over is heard. The deep and distorted voice is a clear indicator that this is a villain we are hearing before we even see what he looks like. In this case diegetic sound twined with the non-diegetic gives the audience a clear idea of where this characters loyalties lie. This character is saying "I will finish what you started" unlike the non-diegetic sound this needs visual aid for it to make sense ie. a close up of Darth Vader's helmet. After the antagonist is introduced the diegetic sound becomes a combination of dialogue and sound effects. These sound effects tell the audience that this will be a sci-fi film but also make the trailer recognisable to fans of the series. For example, spaceships such as the X-Wing and TIE Fighters are included and are from the original films, as are the instantaneously recognisable sounds of a lightsaber..
In this scene we can tell this character is quite strange and peculiar. As his costume, hair and make up are not something an ordinary person would wear every day. Also his make up by his eyes make him look a bit evil because it darkens his eyes. As well as, his hair covering half his face makes I'm look mysterious.
In this scene Ramona is lit up brighter than the two characters behind her. The lighting here shows that she is of more importance and is the one that Scott is focusing on. Also it tells us that she stands out and is different from other people.
In this scene Scott's facial expression tell us that here he is confused and worried about what is going on, and clearly doesn't know what to do. It shows that his character is not used to conflict.
Picture 1 is an extreme long shot, this is used to establish the scene and engage the audience to the setting.
Picture 2 is a close up, this is used to show vivid detail and emotion of the character. In this scene, this is effective as it shows the rise of the Empire.
Picture 3 is an over the shoulder shot, this is used to show you what is happening from the character's viewpoint.
Picture 4 is a point of view shot, it is used to put you in a character's position, this is effective in this scene because you can see the gathering force of the storm troopers.
Picture5 is a low angle shot, the camera is looking up at the object to show its size. This is effective in this scene because you can see how big the space ship is.
